FEEL THE HISTORY
Tavira is one of the oldest and most beautiful towns in the Algarve. Archaeological evidence points to occupation of the area as early as the 8th century B.C.E. and the town received its royal charter from Dom Manuel I in 1520. Despite the massive destruction caused by the great earthquake of 1755, Tavira retains many examples of fine architecture from the 18th century and earlier.
